Snorkling at Phi Phi

Here are some pictures and maybe a video from Phi Phi and the Islands around it.

Finally we had a use for our fancy mask, and we used it well. Many pictures became a big blur, but some turned out pretty good.

This post is meant more for showing then telling :P

In two days we head off to Hanoi via Bangkok. Guess next time its a Vietnamese post, unless we get held up at the border! Splash!

Thaiboksing and nightlife on beautiful Koh Phi Phi

After we left Koh Lanta, we headed for Koh Phi Phi. The islands are known for its stunning beauty and from scenes from the movie "The beach". If we should believe the Lonley planet guide, there are no budget accommodations here ((don't kid yourselves) it said). But we still had to go.

Since we are a bit optimistic, and so far haven't had too much trouble finding a decent place to stay yet, we headed into the village to find a proper spot to stay. While Jorgen went around inspecting hotel rooms (to make sure they were decent for bad backs), Hilde met this adorable creature. She can't help herself taking pictures of all the kittens we meet.

The village here at Koh Phi Phi offers a number of activities. The night life entertainment consist of a huge number of bars and nightclubs.

The other night we went out to see thai boxing. To us the boxers looked like 15 year old boys, but when they started fighting we wouldn't go into that fighting-ring even if we were offered a great amount of money (or a free bucket, which was the prize for the brave foreigners who dared).





When walking around in the village yesterday we found an amusing addition to all the tsunami escape route signs.

Where did the days go?

It's been some days ago since we last posted. Not sure why it takes so long, but the days seem to pass us by faster then I can get a sunburn! (which I actually havent got yet, well ofcourse some burns here and there, but nothing really serious. Since it hasnt effected my sleep :p)

The Bucket contains 1 redbull consentrate(like oil), 1 coke, ice and 1 bottle of thai whiskey. YUM YUM!

Last time we left you at Ko Tao, and we stayed there another 3-4 days. Just exploring the island and enjoying the freedom of not doing anything. Just lying in the shade reading books(every book we brougth is read so we have starstarted hunt for good books in strange little book shops.)
On with the show. We left Ko Tao with boat heading for Surat Thani on the mainland, after a couple of baotchanges we arrived and sat waiting on the pier for the bus to drive to the west coast and Krabi. Busses and mini-vans follow and we ended up at Ao Nang Beach 12 hours or so after we left beautiful Ko Tao. Krabi is a tourist whole like Phuket, and we only stayed the night and didnt get to the rock climbing beaches. Ko Lanta is where he boat took us, and here we are still.

We tried looking up a few places from the lonely Planet book, but they are all so not the same budget as when they first got in the book. So we ended up at a little place at the end of the beach with the most chilled out gang ever.
The bungalow was very simple bamboo huts and didn't have the best madresses. Maybe thats why they smoked so much weed, to feel comfortable anywhere they slept (and I mean the people that owned the place, and even the breakfast lady nextdoor. At 9 am. she offered us the biggest joint imagineable). Their bar menu said they liked it chilled and relaxed, and that you could mix your own drinks in the bar, bring your own music. If we where two weed smoking potheads this would be heaven, but since we arent Jorgens back couldnt take the rough sleeping arangements and after two days we left for softer beds.

Oh, almost forgot. We rented a moterbike at this place, and what a bizarre sight it was.

If your somehow unable to read the picture, it's a Hello Kitty with one arm raised and a t-shirt saying "HEIL". (Beacaue of the extremly slow internet connection we'll have to place the pictures later)

Now we're accomondated in a hotel with a name as fancy as Diamond Sand Palace. And after the last accomondation it feels more or less like a palace :) The beach we're at is kalled Klong Dao. It's a beautiful white sandy beach. The only strange ting here is the amount of Sweeds. They're everywhere. Nothing but sweedish children, parents and some grandparents (And of course a few thai people) . I wonder if there are any people left in Sweden...
I guess we'll be leaving for Koh Phi Phi in a few days.

WOW! Handsome....

Every night there is someone on the beach playing with fire.

And ofcourse, every night the sun goes down in the sea.

Sawat Dee! Here we go!

We start of this little blog with saying its in english to make it easier to write on the keyboards around the world and easier for non norwegians to read.

Our trip started of 11th of febuary and glorious fashion. We went to helsinki for our connecting flight to bangkok. And stepping into the plan it seemed we had all the luck in the world. We got placed in the buisness class so we had to actually lay down to sleep while flying, I knowflying can be a drag but come on!! :D

After a couple of days trying to coping with the warth and the sellers on Khao san road in bangkok we set of to the search for paradise. First stop was Ko Samui, it wasn't paradise. It's very pretty, but overexposed to english,german,norwegian etc. middleage men looking for a good time. And lots of families looking for a resort to take the stress away. Not ideal for us and not very cheap.

So we decided to move along. The boat to Koh Tao was our solution, and what a great one it was. On the boat over we met Greg, which worked at Sunshine Divers in a little beach in Koh Tao. He convinced us to tag along to look at the place and start our Open Water Dive Certificate. Which we started the morning after.
We learned a few basic rules in the classroom, which was hanging 5 feet over the beach and had no walls. I can't remember school being this good!
Now it was time to jump in the swimming pool with full scuba gear on. It was rather scary at first, not really trusting the principal of breathing underwater. But it does work we came to notice after a while, and we started trusting that it worked too.

A few classes later and a good nights sleep, it was out on the boat at 7.15 am. We where about to go under for the very first time in the beatiful underwater world.
We had two dives this day and saw a stunning number of fancy fish up close.
The next day we repeated the same morning ritual, and went of. Diving to 16 m this day, and more fancy fish. Excams followed, 50 multiple choice quiestions, which went great and we are now two happy certified open water divers to 18 m, along with our newfound friend Rob from Australia which took the course with us. We celebrated approprately ofcourse last night!! And today Rob left to meet up with his brother. But hopefully we will be seeing more of Rob when we get to Sydney 16th of april or so.
